Marie & Carl

With the concert project Marie & Carl we worked together with pianist and composer Nicolai Kornerup and acclaimed actress Lotte Andersen.

The purpose is to bring the passionate and turbulent relationship of Denmark’s national composer, Carl Nielsen, and the pioneering sculptor, Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen, to life.

The performance is a blend of music, storytelling, and history. Through dramatic readings of the couple's intimate letters and diaries, Lotte Andersen paints a vivid portrait of two fierce artists struggling to balance their deep love for one another with their uncompromising creative ambitions.

Musically, LiveStrings and Nicolai Kornerup weave the narrative together with powerful new interpretations of Carl Nielsen’s works, alongside original compositions that capture the emotional depth of the story. Rather than a traditional classical concert, Marie & Carl is a poignant, theatrical chamber music experience that sheds new light on the human beings behind some of Denmark's greatest cultural treasures.
