Who we are

The story of LiveStrings began in 2011, when Norwegian cellist Live Johansson founded the quartet with a vision to bring chamber music to a wider audience.

The catalyst was a nationwide tour with the beloved Danish artist Rasmus Seebach.

Since then, LiveStrings has evolved into a powerhouse ensemble of more than ten permanent musicians, all sharing the same curiosity and uncompromising level of excellence.

LiveStrings is not a static entity; it is a living organism that adapts to every project. We perform in various configurations, ranging from intimate duos and classical quartets to full string orchestras.

This flexibility has helped establish us as a preferred partner within the music and media industries—appearing on major festival stages, in television productions, at live concerts, and on numerous recordings and album releases.

Who We Are

Every musician in the ensemble is a graduate of The Royal Danish Academy of Music and abroad, and several hold positions in the country’s leading orchestras, including the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Copenhagen Phil, and the Royal Danish Orchestra.

Our members were educated at The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, supplemented by studies in New York, Chicago, London, Berlin, Paris, Cologne, Stockholm, Trondheim, and Zagreb.

Norwegian cellist Live Johansson founded the string quartet LiveStrings in 2011. Live is the core driving force behind the ensemble; as its artistic director and front person, she is responsible for all coordination, communication, artistic direction, administration, and financial management.

Our vision is clear: we break the boundaries of classical tradition by bringing string music to the forefront—from our own compositions to unexpected collaborations across genres. In an increasingly digital world, we want to inspire both audiences and the next generation of musicians to embrace a vibrant, uncompromising acoustic sound and explore new, rewarding career paths.

We believe that music has the power to connect us. By bringing complexity and enchanting soundscapes to every performance, our goal is to make the string ensemble a natural part of everyday cultural life. We are dedicated to normalizing and popularizing chamber music, moving it beyond the elite to create an open, inclusive space where everyone can experience the magic of authentic, live sound.
